Sebastien Loeb, the nine-time World Rally Champion, is set to return to racing action in the new FIA Rallycross World Cup event in Jakarta on December 5-6. Indonesian squad Sarga Motorsport confirmed on Wednesday that Loeb, 52, will be joined by Swedish driver Kevin Hansen, 28, in the team's lineup.
The pair were teammates in the FIA World Rallycross Championship from 2016 to 2018, and now they reunite for this inaugural event. The World Cup is a separate competition from the European Championship, which currently holds FIA rallycross status.
“I'm very much looking forward to racing in Jakarta and being reunited with Kevin as my teammate. The first FIA Rallycross World Cup in Indonesia is an exciting opportunity for the sport,” said Loeb.
Hansen echoed the sentiment: “To have the opportunity to race alongside Sebastien again, this time in Indonesia, makes it a very special programme. We know each other well from our time as teammates, and I think we can make a really strong combination.”
Loeb and Hansen are the first confirmed entries in the top category of the World Cup. With his nine consecutive WRC titles from 2004 to 2012 and two World RX victories, Loeb remains a formidable force. In recent years, he has focused on rally raids, chasing victory in the Dakar Rally since 2016, with three runner-up finishes so far. His presence in Jakarta adds star power to the new event, which promises to be a thrilling season finale.
