Liberty Media, the new owner of MotoGP, has officially appointed Carlos Ezpeleta as Deputy CEO, while confirming his father, Carmelo, remains as CEO. The announcement, made on Tuesday, immediately drew attention across the paddock.
The move is seen as a strong signal that the US company is doubling down on its confidence in the Ezpeleta family to lead the management structure of MotoGP Sports Entertainment Group (MotoGP SEG), formerly known as Dorna.
Carlos, previously the Sporting Director, has been promoted after being credited with significant contributions to MotoGP's evolution over more than a decade. At just 35 years old, he is considered to have extensive experience in expanding international reach, strengthening strategic partnerships, and growing the global fanbase.

“It is a great honour to take on this role at such an exciting time for MotoGP,” Carlos said in an official statement. “I look forward to working with Liberty Media and the entire MotoGP community to reach new audiences, create new opportunities, and unlock the full potential of this sport.”
Derek Chang, CEO of Liberty Media, which completed its acquisition of MotoGP for around i4.2 billion a year ago, expressed confidence in Carlos's abilities. “Carlos has the experience, vision, and deep understanding of MotoGP needed to lead that transformation,” he said.
Since Liberty Media took control, global expansion and greater visibility in key markets such as the United States have been their main priorities. Restructuring within MotoGP SEG has been ongoing, particularly across promotion and marketing operations.
Carmelo Ezpeleta, the cornerstone of MotoGP since Dorna acquired its commercial rights in 1992, added that Carlos is the ideal person to help guide MotoGP into its next chapter. With this change, MotoGP's strategic direction under Liberty Media is becoming clearer: combining the Ezpeleta family's experience with the US giant's global ambitions.
