Liam Lawson is back in the Red Bull seat this weekend at the Dutch Grand Prix, stepping in for the injured Isack Hadjar. It is a second chance for the New Zealander after a tough start to 2025 with the Austrian squad.
But former F1 driver Anthony Davidson has pinpointed what he believes is Lawson's biggest hurdle: Hadjar's impressive form. The French rookie has been consistently scoring points, delivering exactly what the team wanted from him.
"The biggest problem for Lawson is Isack Hadjar," Davidson said. "He's been doing an incredible job this season alongside Max. It's exactly what the team wanted in Milton Keynes. Lawson can do whatever he wants from a team's point of view this weekend, but you still can't undo the work that Hadjar has done."
Davidson also highlighted Arvid Lindblad's strong rookie campaign, which further narrows Lawson's path to prove himself.
Rather than a chance to convince Red Bull, Davidson sees the weekend as a personal mission for Lawson. "For me, this is just personal satisfaction if he has a good weekend," he said.
Lawson's stint might be short, as Hadjar is reportedly targeting a return in Italy. With pressure mounting, Lawson needs to deliver a strong showing to leave a lasting impression.
