Lewis Hamilton has kept his British GP 2026 podium after FIA stewards issued only a reprimand over an alleged failure to slow sufficiently under single yellow flags.

The Ferrari driver finished third after a confusing race conclusion behind the safety car. However, Hamilton’s podium result remained uncertain after the FIA opened an investigation into his reaction to yellow flags triggered by Nico Hulkenberg parking his Audi on the inside of Copse.

Hamilton had expected a further sanction after the race. However, the stewards considered several mitigating circumstances, including the fact that Hamilton had just been involved in a battle with Max Verstappen and was anticipating a possible counter-attack from the Red Bull driver.

“I’ll probably get a penalty, I’m sure,” Hamilton told Sky F1.

In their verdict, the stewards explained that Hamilton entered the relevant sector before any yellow flag or yellow light panel was displayed. The first light panel he encountered after Turn 9 was showing green immediately before Turn 10, while the yellow indication on his steering wheel display appeared only once he was already on the straight towards Turn 10 and close to the end of the yellow flag zone.

“The stewards heard from the driver of Car 44 (Lewis Hamilton), the team representative and reviewed positioning/marshalling system data, video, timing, telemetry and in-car video evidence,” the stewards stated.

“The evidence showed that there was no yellow light panel warning within the driver’s immediate field of vision and that the yellow indication on the steering wheel display remained visible for only a very short period.”

The stewards nevertheless determined that Hamilton did not make a discernible reduction in speed after the yellow had been displayed on his steering wheel and the green light panel was illuminated before Turn 10. As a result, he was judged not to have fully complied with single yellow flag requirements, but the limited reaction time and the context of his fight with Verstappen led to a reprimand rather than a time penalty.

“In those circumstances, the stewards considered that a reprimand was the appropriate penalty.”

The decision confirms Hamilton retains third place at Silverstone and remains third in the drivers’ championship. With the result, he has reduced his deficit to championship leader Kimi Antonelli to 32 points, while Ferrari leaves the British GP 2026 without losing its podium through a post-race penalty.
