Lewis Hamilton put it all on the line in qualifying but pushed too hard

Lewis Hamilton has hinted at a potential collaborative game plan alongside his teammate to thwart Max Verstappen during the Formula 1 Singapore Grand Prix at the Marina Bay Circuit. The British driver looked to be a genuine contender for pole position after displaying formidable pace throughout the opening stages of qualifying in Q1 and Q2, consistently extracting maximum performance from his machine.

However, Hamilton's momentum slipped during a frantic Q3 session, forcing him to settle for third place on the starting grid behind polesitter Verstappen and Charles Leclerc, who locked out the front row for the Scuderia. Reflecting on the session, Hamilton revealed that adjustments made to his SF-26 following the Sprint significantly improved the car's handling, though finding the ultimate sweet spot on a rapidly evolving track proved to be an exceptionally delicate task.

"We made some changes going into qualifying. The car was feeling so much better, and I really felt like she had more in her," Hamilton explained regarding the setup tweaks. Despite being exceptionally fast in the earlier segments, he struggled with sudden snaps of oversteer in the decisive final shootout, highlighting the fine margin between staying under the limit and pushing the car over the edge on the demanding street circuit.

With overtaking notoriously difficult around Marina Bay, starting position and tactical execution will dictate the outcome of the race. Hamilton acknowledged the tremendous development strides made by Red Bull Racing with their RB22 package, but emphasized that a joint effort between the Maranello teammates remains the most viable route to apply pressure on the Dutchman and potentially alter the race dynamics from the very first corner.

"They’ve done a great job with their engine, but I think also with their car; it’s obviously a great team. We could definitely, hopefully, work as a team tomorrow to try and hold on to Max and put them under pressure," Hamilton concluded, setting the stage for a strategic tactical battle under the floodlights.
