The global expansion strategy of Lepas is not slowing down. The brand under Chinese auto giant Chery Group has officially announced that Italy will be one of six initial European markets, alongside Spain, Greece, Croatia, Slovenia, and Romania. This move marks a new chapter for the Chinese manufacturer as it sets its sights on the competitive European market.
Approximately 1,500 units of the L8 PHEV have already been shipped from the port of Wuhu since July. The SUV, measuring 4,688 mm in length, has been available for order in Italy since that same month, offered in two trims: Essence at i41,700 and Elegance at i44,700. These price points position the L8 PHEV squarely against established players in the premium hybrid SUV segment.
Lepas is serious about its expansion plans. The Chinese company aims to bring the L8 PHEV, L6 EV, L6 PHEV, and L4 EV to Europe, Australia, Africa, Southeast Asia, and the Middle East by September. All models are built on the smart LEX platform, with calibration, features, and services tailored to meet the regulations and needs of each region.

“Our global network now spans over 500 sales and service points,” the official statement read. This figure underscores their commitment to building robust after-sales infrastructure, a critical factor that often hinders new brands from gaining acceptance in European markets.
In Southeast Asia, Lepas has already made headway. Since July, the L6 EV was launched in Thailand, the L8 PHEV was introduced during the Indonesia Brand Night, and the L4 EV made its debut at the 2026 Indonesia International Auto Show, where pricing was also announced. For tropical, humid climates like Southeast Asia, Lepas has tailored battery, cooling, and suspension calibrations to suit local road conditions and driving habits.
Operational support is also a key focus. In Southeast Asia, Lepas has established local facilities and dedicated compliance systems covering research, production, parts, sales, service, and aftermarket, partnering with local companies at every stage. A similar model will likely be replicated in Europe to accelerate market penetration.
Lepas' entry into Europe adds to the growing list of Chinese brands trying their luck in the world's most competitive automotive market. Their success will heavily depend on consumer perception of quality, reliability, and after-sales support. With aggressive pricing and efficient plug-in hybrid technology, Lepas has the potential to win over customers from traditional players like Toyota and Volkswagen.
