Leonardo Fornaroli will continue his journey as McLaren's Formula 1 reserve and third driver for the 2027 season, while simultaneously taking on a prestigious World Endurance Championship campaign with the team's new Hypercar.
This dual programme marks an important new chapter in the Italian driver's career, allowing him to maintain his vital development role in the pinnacle of single-seater motorsport while returning to top-level competitive racing in endurance events.
Throughout the previous campaign, Fornaroli solidified his ties with the Woking squad through an extensive development roadmap that included Testing of Previous Cars sessions, two Grand Prix free practice outings, and rigorous simulator work.

As reported by Autosport, Fornaroli expressed immense gratitude for the unwavering support and developmental opportunities provided by the British outfit, noting that every single session has added substantial value to his racing repertoire.
"The programme McLaren has given me this year has been incredible," Fornaroli stated. "The TPC days I've completed with the team, the two FP1 sessions and all the work I've done in the simulator have been extremely valuable experiences. Every time I work with the team, I learn something new. I want to thank McLaren for the support and the development opportunities they're giving me."
The deep knowledge acquired in F1 is expected to serve as a crucial stepping stone for his upcoming endurance racing venture. Entering a fiercely competitive championship like the WEC demands rapid adaptation, strategic awareness, and mastery over an entirely different machinery.
"All of this will also be very important for the WEC, because it's an extremely competitive championship and there will be so much to learn, from overtaking to strategy, as well as, of course, getting to know a completely new car," Fornaroli added.
The young charger has already sampled the McLaren Hypercar for the first time, experiencing the unique sensation of a closed-cockpit prototype and electric power deployment before diving into full-scale testing and development ahead of the upcoming endurance season.
