Lecuona Wins Superpole Race at Cremona, Bulega Second

Iker Lecuona stormed to victory in the WorldSBK Superpole Race at Cremona, beating his Aruba.it Racing Ducati teammate Nicolo Bulega into second place. The Spanish rider controlled the sprint from start to finish, crossing the line 2.005 seconds ahead.

Lecuona made a strong getaway and immediately pulled a gap. Bulega had no answer to his pace and had to settle for second. This marks Lecuona's first Superpole Race win of the season and boosts his championship hopes.

Alberto Surra (Motocorsa Racing) completed the podium in third, 5.214 seconds adrift. Yari Montella and Sam Lowes rounded out the top five, while Alex Lowes was the best non-Ducati rider in sixth on the Bimota KB998. Tommy Bridewell and Miguel Oliveira followed.

The race saw several crashes, with Lorenzo Baldassarri, Garrett Gerloff, Stefano Manzi, Alvaro Bautista, and Twan Smits all failing to finish. Bautista's retirement was particularly disappointing as he had shown strong pace earlier in the weekend.

With this result, the championship battle tightens. Lecuona has closed the gap to Bulega, who still leads the standings. The main race later today promises to be a thriller, with Ducati riders dominating the sprint.

The Cremona Circuit's tight layout demands precision, and Lecuona mastered it, especially in the first sector. Young riders like Surra and Montella impressed, while veterans Lowes and Lowes showed their class. All eyes now turn to the main race.
