Iker Lecuona put on a masterclass in Race 1 at the Cremona Circuit, leading from lights to flag to secure his second WorldSBK victory of the season. The Spanish rider crossed the line 5.591 seconds ahead of Nicolo Bulega.
Starting from pole, Lecuona grabbed the holeshot and immediately set the pace. Yari Montella briefly challenged him, but the Italian's race came undone with a crash at the end of lap one, and then another fall later on, forcing him to retire.
Montella's misfortune promoted Bulega to second. The reigning champion tried to close the gap to Lecuona but soon settled into a rhythm, managing the gap to the riders behind. Sam Lowes closed in towards the end but had to settle for third, unable to mount a serious challenge for second.
Lorenzo Baldassarri ran close behind Lowes for much of the race but faded in the closing stages, finishing fourth. Garrett Gerloff was the leading non-Ducati rider in fifth, beating Alex Lowes.
Behind Alex Lowes, Andrea Locatelli took seventh ahead of Axel Bassani, Jake Dixon, and Alvaro Bautista, who completed the top ten. The race also saw several retirements, including Miguel Oliveira and Xavi Vierge.
This victory strengthens Lecuona's position in the championship standings, while Bulega maintains his consistency in second. The title fight is heating up as the season progresses.
