Leclerc Defends Vasseur: 'Rumors Disrespectful'

Charles Leclerc has spoken out. Amid the turbulence surrounding Ferrari in recent weeks, the Monegasque driver has emerged as the staunchest defender of team principal Fred Vasseur. Speaking to the media in Sepang ahead of the Malaysian race weekend, Leclerc delivered a heartfelt backing that went beyond mere formalities.

In recent days, Vasseur's position has come under intense scrutiny. Disappointing results for Ferrari in the last few rounds have fueled speculation about his future. The situation heated up when Christian Horner was reportedly linked as a potential candidate for the team principal role. However, Ferrari acted swiftly with an official statement reaffirming full confidence in Vasseur. Now, Leclerc has added his voice from the driver's side.

“I've always said how much I believe in Fred and how important he is for the team,” Leclerc said firmly. “We have a very special relationship. Beyond that, I think he is extremely competent in what he does. He has been invaluable so far and will continue to be in the years to come.”

Leclerc also highlighted the significance of Ferrari's official statement. According to him, there was never any doubt within the team about their full support for Vasseur. “But sometimes it's necessary to clarify that to the outside world,” he added. “I just wish there weren't so many absurd rumors circulating.”

The number 16 driver did not deny that the rumors are disrupting the team's focus. “We need everyone and everything pushing in the same direction at the factory,” he said. “If rumors like this circulate, we end up spending more time talking about them, and that's not pleasant. Fred, like all of us in the team, pushes to the limit. I find it a bit disrespectful to see so many rumors.”

Nevertheless, Leclerc acknowledged that criticism is part of their job. “Accepting criticism is part of our work, but when news like this keeps spreading, I think at some point respect is lost,” he concluded.

Leclerc's statement sends a strong signal that Vasseur still has solid support inside the garage. Ferrari is currently fighting to get back to winning ways, and stability in the leadership role is key. With Leclerc being vocal, external pressure is expected not to distract the team's focus as they chase their best performance in the remainder of the season.
