Liam Lawson is hopeful that his impressive performances with Red Bull earlier this year will work in his favour when management finalizes the driver lineup for the 2027 season. The New Zealander was called up to stand in for an injured Isack Hadjar when the sport returned from the summer break, racing competitively for the senior squad across Zandvoort, Monza, and Madrid.
Those strong outings represented a notable redemption arc following the difficult period he endured at the start of 2025, when a troubled opening two rounds resulted in a demotion back to the sister team. Despite his positive campaign and consistent points finishes yielding 65 points after 16 rounds, Liam Lawson admits his seat is far from guaranteed for 2027, with Formula 2 title contender Nikola Tsolov heavily linked as an option for Racing Bulls.
When asked if his brief promotion to the senior team strengthens his case for a 2027 drive, Liam Lawson told media outlets including RacingNews365, "I think potentially, just in how difficult it can be to jump into a different car." However, the 30-year-old remains cautious about predicting the final outcome of the ongoing driver market negotiations.

"But outside of that, I don't know. I think it depends on how you look at it. Honestly, I have no idea," Liam Lawson added regarding the uncertainty surrounding his immediate future in the motorsport pinnacle. Meanwhile, his primary focus remains anchored on maximizing results on track for the remainder of the current campaign.
With the pecking order firmly established into a distinct split between the top four constructors and the chasing pack, Racing Bulls has targeted a fifth-place finish in the standings. Liam Lawson insists that overtaking Alpine in the constructors' battle remains the ultimate objective for the Faenza-based outfit.
Reflecting on the fierce midfield battle, Liam Lawson explained, "The first part of the year when everyone's still funnelling themselves out, there was a case where we were quite close with them. Over the course of a season, when the gap is as big as it is, it all eventually evens out and you see the pace." Beating Alpine to secure ninth in the standings would mark a monumental achievement for both the team and his personal career.
