Lando Norris converted pole position into victory at the 2026 Hungarian Formula 1 Grand Prix, completing 70 laps at the Hungaroring with a 15.080-second advantage over Max Verstappen.

Norris lost the lead during the opening phase when Oscar Piastri made the stronger start and moved into first place. The contest between the two McLaren drivers then shifted through the pit-stop sequence before Piastri’s contact with Carlos Sainz gave Norris an opportunity to take control.

Oscar Piastri ultimately retired after suffering a gearbox problem on lap 56. The failure triggered a virtual safety car and ended the Australian’s victory challenge after he had controlled the first half of the race.

Max Verstappen finished second for Red Bull, while championship leader Kimi Antonelli completed the podium in third. Antonelli had adopted a two-stop strategy and fitted fresh hard tyres for the final stint.

Lewis Hamilton crossed the line in fourth but was demoted to fifth by a five-second penalty for speeding in the pit lane. The sanction promoted Ferrari team-mate Charles Leclerc to fourth in the final classification.

Isack Hadjar secured sixth ahead of George Russell. Liam Lawson, Nico Hulkenberg and Arvid Lindblad completed the top 10, with Gabriel Bortoleto finishing as the first driver outside the points.

Cadillac suffered a double retirement as Sergio Perez and Valtteri Bottas both failed to finish. The Hungaroring result concluded the final race before the summer break, with Norris carrying winning momentum into Formula 1’s next round.
