Lando Norris endured a remarkably testing weekend in Bahrain, battling a baffling straight-line speed deficit that uniquely plagued his machine while Oscar Piastri's side of the garage enjoyed a clean run.
The top-speed shortfall—quantified by team data at just one to two kilometers per hour—cost the British driver nearly two-tenths of a second per lap. Over the course of a 55-lap Grand Prix, that relentless performance drain proved to be extraordinarily painful as he fought to salvage a ninth-place finish.
McLaren Team Principal Andrea Stella previously acknowledged the power-limited acceleration discrepancy, noting that while the statistical differences appear minor on paper, they accumulate into a noticeable lap time penalty.

Despite the clear technical hurdle, the 2025 world champion steadfastly refused to lean entirely on excuses, openly admitting that there remain areas in his own racecraft and execution that require immediate improvement ahead of the upcoming rounds.
The afternoon's hurdles were further compounded by a heart-stopping near-miss under safety car conditions, forcing Norris to take immediate evasive action into the Turn 1 gravel trap to avoid a heavy collision with slowing cars ahead.
