Lando Norris is currently facing an anxious waiting period regarding the future of his newly formed racing squad, LN4 Fusion, as it aims to secure a coveted spot on the Formula 2 grid for the 2027 season. The ambitious outfit founded by the British star must navigate a highly competitive selection process against multiple interested parties vying for entry into the premier single-seater feeder series.
FIA Formula 2 CEO Bruno Michel has confirmed that championship organizers are nearing the final stages of choosing the team lineup for the upcoming three-year cycle covering the 2027, 2028, and 2029 campaigns. "Well, we do a new selection every three years, so that’s where we are when we have a new car as well," Michel explained regarding the ongoing structural evaluation period.
Elaborating on the timeline, Michel noted that the definitive list of accepted entrants will be published in the near future following thorough evaluations. "We’re in the process of this selection at the moment, so we will come up with a list of teams within one month, I would say, one month and a half. So, it’s going to be quite soon," he stated, pointing to an imminent resolution for all prospective applicants.

Addressing the specific application submitted by the McLaren driver's organization, Michel emphasized that all proposals receive equal consideration under strict regulatory standards. "And of course, Lando Norris’ team has been applying for a licence, and we’re looking at it like we’re looking at any other request. There are a lot of teams that would like to join Formula 2 at the moment," he remarked on the high volume of interest.
Despite overwhelming commercial appeal, organizers remain firm on capping the grid size to preserve the long-term economic stability and operational health of the existing competitors. "It’s a very healthy championship, but we’re not going to increase the number of teams because that’s something that is quite important for the health of the teams. And also, you know, I think 22 drivers in F2 is good enough when you have 22 drivers in F1," Michel stressed.
Having launched LN4 Fusion in early September following the acquisition of AIX Racing assets—alongside securing an F3 entry through 2027 featuring Gabriel Gomez and James Egozi—the founder's vision focuses on creating clear pathways for young talent. Amidst these team-building developments, Norris must now shift his immediate attention to on-track duties as he prepares for the upcoming United States Grand Prix weekend.
