Throughout the recent Grands Prix, Lando Norris has been heavily impacted by a persistent fuel system issue, which directly hampered his straight-line speed on various circuits. This technical hurdle added an extra layer of difficulty to his weekend campaigns as the intense battle at the pinnacle of motorsport reached its boiling point.

However, following the opening day of track action at the Marina Bay Circuit, the British driver is feeling remarkably optimistic that the frustrating issue plaguing his machinery has finally been resolved, bringing much-needed relief to his side of the garage.

Despite the positive breakthrough regarding the car's reliability, the 2025 Formula 1 world champion will only be able to start Saturday's sprint race from fifth place on the grid. He will line up directly behind his teammate, Oscar Piastri, a starting slot that he candidly admitted left him feeling less than thrilled.

Even with the grid position falling short of his absolute standards, finding a fix for the fuel complication has fostered a stronger bond within the team environment. Norris pointed out that his qualifying shortfall was strictly down to his own inability to stitch together a clean, competitive flying lap.

"I think so, from what I've seen so far. I don't know everything just yet, to be honest," Norris told the media after sprint qualifying, as reported by Crash.net.

"The guys are still looking into it, and it's been a busy day, but a lot of things seem good. We seem closer as a team; I just didn't do a good enough job," the McLaren charger elaborated regarding the team's ongoing progress.

He went on to accept full accountability for his performance on track, shutting down any potential excuses. "I just don't think I put together a very good lap; that was all. No excuse," Norris firmly stated.

There remains a distinct possibility that Norris could be elevated further up the starting order for Saturday's sprint event. Current pole sitter Max Verstappen is currently under official investigation by the FIA for a suspected yellow flag infringement.

Should Verstappen receive a retroactive five-place grid penalty for the infraction, Norris stands to inherit a spot on the second row of the grid, slotting in neatly right beside his teammate for the shorter Saturday contest.

Ultimately, the British star's primary target will be securing a vastly superior grid slot for Sunday's main Grand Prix. That crucial opportunity will arrive during the traditional Saturday qualifying session immediately following the sprint race.
