Lando Norris has finally softened his stance and publicly admitted his mistake following a controversial collision with his teammate during the Singapore Grand Prix weekend. The reigning world champion revised his initial position after engaging in intensive internal discussions with the McLaren management team in the paddock.
Previously, an aggressive maneuver at Turn 5 on the final lap of the sprint race triggered a heavy crash that sent both McLaren cars spinning off the track. The incident shattered the team's chances of securing maximum points, as Oscar Piastri was forced into retirement while Norris salvaged an eighth-place finish.
Although the stewards elected against penalising either driver, concluding that both contributed to the collision, a strong reaction came directly from team principal Andrea Stella. This internal pressure completely shifted Norris's perspective ahead of Sunday's main grand prix.

Speaking to the media, the British driver candidly stated that forcing a gap on the final corner was a severe misjudgment. He emphasized that the collective interests of the Woking-based squad must always come above personal ambitions on the track.
"It's pretty straightforward. I can't attempt what I did," Norris said. "I should never have attempted it in the first place, even if the move was on. I simply have to think more of the team that I represent than myself. It was a mistake on my part and I let down the team. I've also apologised to all of them and I owe them all an apology. We'll do better next time."
This cooperative attitude marked a drastic change from his defensive stance immediately after Saturday's sprint. Earlier, he had argued that the space left by his teammate was sufficient to justify launching an overtaking attempt for fourth position.
The tension had previously escalated when he gave a sarcastic response to a journalist questioning the necessity of such an aggressive move between teammates. However, Andrea Stella's firm stance—stating that individual egos cannot outweigh the team's interests—swiftly diffused the situation.
With closed-door evaluations concluded, this Singapore incident is expected to serve as a crucial lesson for both drivers as they navigate the remainder of the racing calendar without compromising constructor points.
