Brodie Kostecki finally broke his duck at Queensland Raceway. The Brodie Kostecki claimed his first Supercars win at the circuit, overcoming a tense battle with Matt Payne in the opening sprint race at Ipswich.
Starting from second, Kostecki used the cleaner side of the track to overtake pole-sitter Payne into Turn 1. From there, he managed his pace and tyres over the first six or seven laps while keeping an eye on his rivals behind.
Pit strategy proved decisive. Payne attempted an undercut by pitting earlier on lap 18 for four tyres. Kostecki responded a lap later, taking three tyres. That call proved spot on as he emerged behind Kai Allen and Chaz Mostert, but soon surged past after contact between the two.

"It feels fantastic. It's obviously only a sprint race but it means a lot to me to win here in front of DJ (Dick Johnson)," said Kostecki after the race. "I just want to thank everyone at the Shell V-Power Racing Team. We've got a lot of people here from the workshop and obviously our core group that travel."
The win was a team effort, with Kostecki acknowledging there is still room for improvement. "We've got a little bit more speed in it. Matt (Payne) is pretty speedy at the start of the stint, so I need to tune it up for the next one," he added.
Meanwhile, Will Brown and Chaz Mostert had a fierce battle early on before Mostert got past Brown. However, Mostert had to settle for fourth after being overtaken by Brown and then Broc Feeney late in the race. Kai Allen, who briefly led, was denied a podium due to a five-second penalty for an incident with Mostert.
With this result, Kostecki showed his prowess at a track that wasn't previously his favorite. Now attention turns to the main race, which promises to be even hotter.
