Ricard Jove couldn't hide his admiration for Pedro Acosta after the young rider secured his first MotoGP victory at the Austrian Grand Prix. In the latest episode of the 'Duralavita' podcast, the veteran Spanish analyst described Acosta's win as long overdue and far from a fluke.
“He was hitting the crossbar repeatedly, and eventually the goal had to come. The bike has improved, especially after engine revisions that gave them more revs, and it showed. The other KTMs have improved too, and Pol Espargaro also did a good job,” Jove began. He stressed that while KTM's technical progress played a big role, what sets Acosta apart from other KTM riders is his sheer determination.
“Once again, the difference between Pedro, who is fourth in the championship, and the other KTM of Binder, who is thirteenth, is that point of determination. This victory is highly meritorious because of the work KTM has done, especially through the desert they crossed last year,” he added. Jove also highlighted how Acosta bounced back from a mistake in the Sprint Race, where he selected the wrong gear and lost the lead, and a crash in warm-up. Yet in the main race, he dominated and avoided errors, even under pressure from a strong Jorge Martin.
Acosta's win is not only historic for the young rider but also adds a new dimension to the title fight. “It gives us more life because for the championship, we have one more element that can add or subtract advantages for others. For the show, it's brutal, and for the future, I think Marc Marquez said it well: Acosta is the present and very clear future of MotoGP,” Jove stated.
Meanwhile, Jorge Martin reclaimed the championship lead after winning the Sprint and finishing second in the main race. Marc Marquez, who suffered a brake issue on his Ducati, had to settle for fifth. Nevertheless, Jove believes Marquez still possesses something that keeps him dangerous in the title hunt. “Martin, among the Top 5, has the fewest zeroes. That shows his consistency, but Marquez still has another advantage,” he said without elaborating.
This season's title fight is becoming increasingly intriguing with Acosta emerging as a strong contender. His victory in Austria proves he is not only fast but also capable of handling pressure and bouncing back from mistakes. KTM is also growing in confidence after a difficult period. With a long season ahead, the Martin-Marquez duo can no longer ignore Acosta, who is ready to shake up the top order.
