Jorge Martin turned the tables on Marc Marquez at Motegi to claim pole position for the 2026 Japanese MotoGP, producing the fastest lap of qualifying on his final run.
Martin had looked a step behind reigning champion Marquez heading into the decisive session, but the Aprilia rider found the pace when it mattered most to take the top spot with a 1:42.371.
Marquez had to settle for second, just 0.110 seconds behind Martin on the Ducati Lenovo Team machine. Pedro Acosta completed the front row for Red Bull KTM Factory Racing, 0.122 seconds off pole.

Marco Bezzecchi placed fourth on the second Aprilia, followed by Alex Marquez in fifth. Fabio Di Giannantonio and Enea Bastianini took sixth and seventh respectively, while Raul Fernandez qualified eighth.
Diogo Moreira was ninth for Pro Honda LCR, with Johann Zarco completing the top 10. Ai Ogura qualified 11th, ahead of Fabio Quartararo in 12th.
Francesco Bagnaia suffered a major setback after failing to progress from Q1. The Ducati rider will start from 13th, with Franco Morbidelli, Somkiat Chantra and Luca Marini completing the next three positions.
Brad Binder qualified 17th, followed by Fermin Aldeguer, Maverick Vinales, Jack Miller, Alex Rins and Toprak Razgatlioglu.
