Jorge Martin secured pole position for the Austrian GP, edging out Marc Marquez and Pedro Acosta. Despite battling arm pump, Martin mastered the drying Red Bull Ring to deny Marquez the top spot.
The result sets up a mouth-watering fight, with the top two in the standings heading into the race deadlocked on points at the head of the championship.
For Marquez, second place marks his best qualifying result at the Red Bull Ring since taking pole in 2021. The Spaniard showed competitive pace, especially after crashing in FP2.
Pedro Acosta had to settle for third in qualifying after leading Friday’s proceedings. This is his final home Grand Prix with KTM, and he is determined to deliver a strong result for the Austrian manufacturer.
In the second row, Marco Bezzecchi will start fourth, followed by Ai Ogura and Alex Marquez. Alex suffered his second crash of the weekend at Turn 1, the same corner where his brother Marc went down during FP2.
Francesco Bagnaia, who advanced through Q1, could only manage seventh, though it still marks his best qualifying result since Assen. He starts ahead of Fabio Di Giannantonio (eighth), while Fabio Quartararo secured ninth and Q1 pace-setter Johann Zarco rounded out the top ten.
Brad Binder, in his final Austrian GP appearance with KTM, will start 11th, leading Fermin Aldeguer in 12th. Trackhouse rider Raul Fernandez was visibly frustrated after narrowly missing out on a direct Q2 spot, leaving him 13th on the grid. Pol Espargaro and Luca Marini completed the top 15.
