Formula 1, Sportrik Media - Jenson Button has dismissed speculation that he is set to replace Martin Brundle in the Sky Sports F1 commentary team, clarifying his current role within the broadcaster’s 2026 lineup.

The 2009 Formula 1 world champion addressed the rumours via social media following a wave of online reports suggesting he could take on a more prominent commentary position. Button firmly stated that Brundle remains the central figure in Sky’s coverage.

“I am not positioned to replace Martin; he’s the man when it comes to commentary and insights,” Button wrote.

“I enjoy stepping in when Martin takes a well-deserved break, but I wouldn’t want to do more as I already have enough going on.”

The speculation emerged amid widespread online discussion regarding potential changes to Sky Sports F1’s broadcast structure. However, Brundle himself has also rejected such claims, describing them as unfounded and misleading.

He confirmed that he continues to follow a schedule of approximately 16 races per season, consistent with recent years, and will maintain that arrangement throughout 2026 alongside lead commentator David Croft.

Button currently operates as a pundit and expert analyst within the Sky Sports F1 team, contributing technical insights and stepping in on select occasions. His role is not designed as a full-time replacement within the commentary box.

In parallel with his broadcasting commitments, Button also serves as a team ambassador for Aston Martin under a multi-year agreement, supporting commercial, media, and partner-related activities.

Beyond Formula 1, he remains active in historic racing and is involved in various business ventures, including his whisky brand, further limiting his availability for expanded broadcasting duties.

Sky Sports formally confirmed its 2026 Formula 1 broadcast lineup in March, retaining Brundle, Croft, and Ted Kravitz, alongside expert contributors such as Bernie Collins, Jamie Chadwick, Nico Rosberg, and Jacques Villeneuve.

With these clarifications, Sky Sports F1’s commentary structure remains unchanged heading into the 2026 season, effectively closing down recent speculation regarding potential role shifts within the broadcast team.
