Defined as the mental or moral strength to face danger, fear, difficulty, or pain instead of withdrawing from it, true courage was on full display as James Williams made his emotional return to competitive rallying 18 months after a fatal crash.
The devastating accident at the Jim Clark Rally last May claimed the life of his co-driver Dai Roberts and turned Williams' world upside down. Dealing with grief, burden, and profound bewilderment, many would not have blamed him for walking away from the service park for good.
However, an unexpected last-minute call up changed everything. When Ian Bainbridge had to withdraw from the Cambrian Rally, he asked Williams to deputize, thrusting the Welshman back into the high-pressure environment of competitive stage rallying.

Displaying remarkable mental fortitude amid a title fight featuring contenders like Max McRae, James Williams not only completed the event but drove brilliantly to secure a stunning third-place overall finish.
"There was definitely a point when I thought, 'this isn't for me anymore'," Williams admitted to DirtFish, highlighting how his enduring passion and deep connection to his late co-driver ultimately fueled his courageous comeback to the sport.
