Young racing talent Jak Crawford is gearing up to step back into the high-pressure environment of a Formula 1 race weekend. The American development driver has been officially confirmed to take over the wheel of the AMR26 during the opening Free Practice session at the upcoming Mexico City Grand Prix. This crucial outing will allow the Aston Martin squad to successfully fulfill their mandatory rookie practice session requirements for the ongoing championship season.
Crawford's appearance inside the cockpit comes as no surprise to fans following his steady progression within the team. He has previously logged valuable mileage during Free Practice sessions in Japan, Austria, and Belgium. His upcoming run in Mexico will mirror last year's schedule when he made his official Formula 1 debut at the very same circuit, once again stepping in to take over the car usually driven by Lance Stroll during the opening hour of track action.
The 21-year-old racer officially joined the Aston Martin Driver Development Programme back in 2024. Following two demanding campaigns competing in Formula 2 under the team's watchful eye, he has successfully graduated into a vital reserve driver role. His behind-the-scenes work in the simulator has proven instrumental in shaping the team's ongoing car development and setup strategies throughout the rigorous global racing calendar.

Expressing his excitement ahead of the race weekend, Crawford shared his thoughts on returning to the familiar Mexican venue. I am really looking forward to getting back behind the wheel of the AMR26 in Mexico City. It is a special circuit for me as it is where I made my FP1 debut last year, so it is great to return with more experience under my belt. I have learned a lot through my time on track and in the simulator this season, and I am looking forward to putting that into practice. It is also special to be announcing this during my home race weekend in Austin, where the focus will remain on making the most of the session and delivering useful feedback for the team.
Team management has been equally vocal in praising the young American's professional growth and technical feedback loop. Chief Trackside Officer Mike Krack highlighted the vast improvements Crawford has made since his initial rookie outing twelve months ago. We are pleased to give Jak another opportunity in the AMR26. He returns to Mexico City with considerably more experience than when he made his FP1 debut there last year. His contributions through our simulator and testing programmes have been valuable, and this session provides another opportunity to demonstrate his capabilities while supporting the team preparations for the weekend.
