A demanding and stellar season has culminated in ultimate glory as Jack Aitken officially claimed the 2026 IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship GTP title. The crowning moment arrived the moment he took the green flag at the 29th Motul Petit Le Mans hosted at Michelin Raceway Road Atlanta.
Aitken had already built a commanding foundation heading into the season finale. A brilliant fourth-place finish in qualifying pushed his points advantage four markers clear of his final title challenger, Laurin Heinrich, who could only manage seventh on the grid in the factory Porsche 963.
Given the mathematical equation at play, all Aitken needed to do was start the race. The moment the #31 Cadillac Whelen V-Series.R rolled off the starting grid, the drivers' crown was secured, alongside the GTP team championship for Action Express Racing and the prestigious manufacturers' trophy for Cadillac.

"It's been a long year and feels like we've got it done slightly early, which is a bit surreal after such a hard battle," Aitken shared following qualifying, praising the relentless effort put in by his crew. The stellar pace showed by their machinery from round one proved instrumental in weathering a fiercely competitive field.
With the championship pressure now completely lifted from his shoulders, the racing dynamic shifted entirely. Running sixth at the conclusion of the opening hour just behind Heinrich, Aitken turned his full attention toward chasing a race victory to cap off his championship-winning campaign in style.
