Drama unfolded even before the red lights went out at Motegi, as championship leader Manuel Gonzalez stalled on the grid and was wheeled away into the pit lane, blowing the title race wide open.
Seizing the golden opportunity, Izan Guevara commanded the race from the front. The Spaniard maintained a steady rhythm at the head of the pack despite intense late pressure from Tony Arbolino who tried to lunge for the lead in the closing stages.
Guevara immediately responded with a crucial burst of pace to cross the chequered flag first, securing his second consecutive victory of the season. Arbolino managed to hold off a charging Filip Salac to secure the runner-up spot on the podium.

Further down the order, Celestino Vietti set a blistering pace in the mid-race phase to break the race lap record, while the rest of the field battled fiercely for the remaining points-paying positions in challenging conditions.
