Izan Guevara claimed the fastest lap time during the Moto2 Practice session at the Phillip Island Grand Prix Circuit. The Spanish rider delivered a stellar performance to clock in at 1 minute 30.016 seconds during a session heavily disrupted by multiple crashes.
The forty-minute afternoon session at the Phillip Island venue saw intense drama as Turn 11 proved treacherous for the field. Daniel Munoz suffered a heavy highside crash at the corner, quickly followed by Aron Canet who went down at the exact same spot and required assistance to leave the gravel trap due to visible pain.
Further incidents unfolded as Sergio Garcia crashed at Turn 6, while Daniel Holgado went off at Turn 10, severely damaging his machine. Despite the setback, Holgado rebounded impressively to secure a direct spot in Q2 by finishing fourth fastest overall.
In the closing stages of the practice, local favorite Senna Agius temporarily held the top spot with a fast lap. However, Guevara responded brilliantly to eclipse the Australian's time by a mere 0.018 seconds to seal the ultimate position of the session.
Further down the timesheets, Barry Baltus did enough in the final moments to secure thirteenth place and a direct ticket to Q2, whereas other competitors faced a tougher challenge and must fight their way through Q1.
