Isack Hadjar Reveals Emotional Red Bull Journey

Formula 1, Sportrik Media - Isack Hadjar and Red Bull Racing have revisited the pivotal moment that defined his career trajectory, as the French driver revealed the emotional circumstances surrounding his first contract with the Red Bull junior programme.

Hadjar officially joined the Red Bull Junior Team at the start of 2022, following initial discussions with senior advisor Helmut Marko in 2021. That opportunity laid the foundation for his progression through the Red Bull system, ultimately earning him a place on the Formula 1 grid.

Now competing alongside Max Verstappen, Hadjar has quickly demonstrated his potential in the opening rounds of the 2026 season. He has shown the ability to match the pace of the four-time world champion more closely than many of his predecessors, underlining his rapid adaptation to the demands of Formula 1.

However, the journey to that position was far from straightforward. Hadjar recalled a period of significant uncertainty during his junior career, when financial constraints threatened his ability to complete a full season of competition.

“It was a time in my career when I had no clear trajectory. Even financing the season was difficult, and we didn’t know if we could finish it. So when Red Bull signed me, it was a huge relief,” Hadjar explained in an official interview.

He also described how both he and his family needed time to fully process the opportunity. Even after receiving Red Bull equipment and wearing the team’s colours, he admitted it was difficult to fully believe the reality of the situation.

The initial contact with Red Bull came immediately after Hadjar secured victory in a Formula Regional European Championship race in Monaco in 2021. On the same day, he held his first meeting with Marko, an encounter that left a lasting impression.

Hadjar highlighted Marko’s direct approach as a defining feature of the interaction, reflecting the decisive nature of Red Bull’s driver selection process. The clarity of the offer provided both certainty and urgency at a critical stage of his career.

“He told me straight away that he would send a contract and that I just had to decide whether to sign it or not. It was very straightforward, very impressive, and above all, it brought relief,” he added.

The story underscores the complexity of reaching Formula 1, where performance, opportunity, and financial backing intersect. As the 2026 season progresses, that experience remains a key reference point for Hadjar as he continues to establish himself at the highest level of the sport.
