Formula 1 racing weekend at the Marina Bay Circuit left a bitter pill for Lewis Hamilton after his own gamble completely ruined his podium chances. Starting the race with high ambitions, the seven-time world champion plummeted from third to sixth place due to a high-risk tyre strategy that backfired spectacularly.
The critical turning point arrived during a Virtual Safety Car (VSC) neutralization phase. The Ferrari pit wall had issued clear instructions for both cars to peel into the pit lane. However, an instantaneous call made from inside the cockpit changed the course of their afternoon as he opted to stay out on track.

The repercussions were devastating during the final stint. Forcing a set of soft tyres to last a mammoth 44-lap stint resulted in severe degradation. He haemorrhaged roughly 2.5 seconds per lap relative to team-mate Charles Leclerc before ultimately losing positions to charging rivals behind him.
Team principal Fred Vasseur faced intense media scrutiny after the chequered flag, immediately clarifying that the outfit had done everything right from the pit wall. "We called two cars, 'Guys, you pit behind the VSC'. One of my guys said, 'No, I prefer to stay on track'," Vasseur stated while breaking down the communication breakdown.
While conceding that the outcome was clearly a mistake, Vasseur acknowledged the delicate balance between relying on vast engineering data and respecting a driver's immediate instinct inside the car. Nonetheless, the strategic gamble proved to be a costly miscalculation.
In a post-race statement released by the team—as the British driver was excused from media duties to visit the medical centre—he took full accountability for the setback. Describing the afternoon as a painful lesson, he noted that taking a different approach on a notoriously difficult track to overtake simply did not pay off. The Italian squad will now regroup and sharpen their communication protocols heading into the final stretch of the championship.
