Inside Andrea Stella's Strict Stance on Lando Norris and Oscar Piastri F1 Collision in Singapore

McLaren team principal Andrea Stella has made it clear that he is not interested in accepting apologies from his drivers following their unacceptable collision during the Singapore Grand Prix sprint race, setting up crucial internal talks to address the serious situation.

The dramatic incident occurred on the final lap of Saturday's sprint as Lando Norris and Oscar Piastri fought fiercely for fourth position behind Ferrari's Charles Leclerc. Norris launched a late move down the inside at Turn 5, with the Australian driver believing he had left sufficient room.

Contact between their wheels proved unavoidable, resulting in a dramatic crash that race stewards ultimately deemed a racing incident, judging that neither driver bore predominant blame for the unfortunate collision.

Piastri was sent spinning into the barrier, forcing an immediate retirement from the race, while Norris managed to recover and salvage a single championship point by crossing the finish line in eighth place.

Stella expressed severe disappointment in the team's post-qualifying statements, labeling the unnecessary loss of fourth and fifth-place finishes as completely unacceptable given the ongoing championship battles.

According to The-Race, the Italian boss emphasized the severity of the matter, pointing out that dropping vital points heavily impacts McLaren's ambitions in the fiercely contested constructors' standings.

"It is serious," Stella stated regarding the internal friction. "It is serious because the damage for the team is material. We are in a close fight in the championship and this is a problem."

Although further comprehensive discussions are scheduled ahead of the upcoming United States Grand Prix in Austin, Stella reiterated that simple apologies do not fix the core philosophy of prioritizing team interests.
