IndyCar Reveals First 8 Rounds of 2027 Calendar: Phoenix to Indy 500

IndyCar has finally lifted the lid on the first eight rounds of its 2027 season. One detail jumps out immediately: the championship will again kick off with three races across three consecutive weekends, just as it did successfully this year.

This initial phase stretches from the season opener at St. Petersburg on March 7 to the streets of Detroit on June 6. In between, a big name stands out: the Indianapolis 500's 111th edition, which will crown the Month of May at Indianapolis Motor Speedway.

St. Petersburg will host the opener for the 17th time. The following week, IndyCar shares the track with NASCAR at Phoenix Raceway on March 13—a double-header weekend that always carries its own appeal.

Round three returns to the streets of Arlington, where this year's inaugural race was a sell-out and Kyle Kirkwood won by a slim 0.314-second margin over Alex Palou. That kind of moment clearly leaves a lasting impression.

Penske Entertainment Corp. President and CEO Mark Miles responded with enthusiasm. "2026 has been proof of concept that our sport is fueled by an expanding presence across marquee events and destinations, and we look forward to carrying that momentum into 2027," he said.

The calendar is indeed designed to build toward the iconic "Month of May." After the road-course Grand Prix on May 15, qualifying will take place the following weekend, before the climax on May 30. Last year's race saw 70 lead changes and the closest finish in history, with Felix Rosenqvist edging David Malukas by just 0.0233 seconds.

Phase two of the 2027 calendar, covering the remainder of the season, is expected in the coming weeks. One thing is certain: the new season's start already has plenty of compelling storylines to look forward to.
