The NTT IndyCar Series has officially unveiled its complete 2027 racing schedule, featuring a robust 17-event calendar that introduces major structural changes compared to previous seasons. The announcement highlights a bold international expansion alongside strategic shifts in domestic venues that will redefine the championship battle.
The most significant headline of the 2027 release is the addition of Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya in Spain, marking the series' highly anticipated return to an overseas venue for the first time in over a decade. Scheduled for July 18, the European round will be buffered by an off-week on either side of the race to smoothly facilitate complex transatlantic travel logistics for all participating teams and equipment.
However, this international growth comes at the expense of Nashville Superspeedway. The Music City Grand Prix originally debuted as a downtown street course in 2021 before transitioning to the nearby oval track due to stadium construction at the urban site. Despite enjoying strong popularity and fan turnout at both venue configurations, the track has been entirely dropped from the 2027 lineup, partly to clear logistical hurdles required for the mid-July Spanish round.

Furthermore, the special Freedom 250 race held in Washington D.C. to celebrate the United States' 250th anniversary has been confirmed strictly as a one-off event. The nation's capital and its surrounding region will not host any IndyCar races in 2027. Meanwhile, the opening stretches of the season remain largely familiar, kicking off at St. Petersburg in early March, running alongside NASCAR at Phoenix Raceway, and heading toward the historic Indianapolis 500.
The 2027 season will ultimately reach its climax back at Laguna Seca in early September. This deliberate scheduling ensures the championship concludes ahead of the popular NFL season kickoff, protecting television viewership numbers.
