Francois Delecour and Fabrice Gordon secured the FIA EHRC pre-2000 championship with a commanding victory at Rallye Elba Storico. Driving IKE Racing's Peugeot 306 Maxi, the pair clinched the title before the season finale.
For Delecour, it was his first time competing at Elba, yet he dominated by winning six of the ten special stages. Speed was crucial, but the car's reliability and tyre choices on the changing asphalt also played a decisive role. "The fast and twisty stages, with constantly changing grip, demanded complete concentration," Delecour said.
He added, "The car was perfect in terms of reliability and set-up. With the right tyre choices, we could enjoy the driving, put on a show for the fans, and get the maximum out of it."
For IKE Racing, the championship rewards a major construction project. Andrea "Zippo" Zivian spent over three years rebuilding the 306 Maxi, overcoming several difficult technical challenges. "When I started this project, it seemed crazy. To see this result now brings nothing but satisfaction," Zivian said.
However, this does not mark the end of the project for IKE Racing. Zivian announced that two new cars are under construction, with more details to be revealed later.
The season is not over yet for Delecour, Gordon, and the 306 Maxi. Next up is the EHRC season finale at Rallye Sanremo on 16–17 October, followed by Rally de Asturias Historico at the end of October.
