The premier German motorcycle championship, IDM, is gearing up for a major reset in 2027 by reclaiming its iconic name and welcoming a new leadership structure under the ADAC banner after operating under the Euro Moto label. This transitional phase brings seasoned team manager Michael Galinski on board as the new Technical Director, while Udo Mark takes charge of sporting and marketing duties. Galinski's primary mandate is to put a brake on the runaway technical escalation and soaring costs that have plagued independent teams in recent years.
Galinski's decision to accept this pivotal role stems from a lifelong passion and deep-rooted personal connection to the championship. Witnessing firsthand the dwindling grid sizes and mounting paddock frustration during recent race weekends pushed him to step up and help restore the series to its former glory. Conversations with distressed participants at various circuits highlighted a widespread dissatisfaction regarding inconsistent rulebooks and a perceived loss of the championship's core identity.
“I come from IDM and I am one of those who has been around the longest. I was always in it with love. This year participation continued to decline, and that made me sad. I was on site in Oschersleben and experienced the dissatisfaction of those involved. People complained about the rules not being clearly defined,” Galinski explained as reported by Speedweek.
These concerns were echoed by other high-profile paddock figures including Werner Daemen and Jens Holzhauer, all of whom shared anxieties over the previous direction of the series. The brief shift to the Euro Moto moniker failed to resonate with European fans who still strongly associated the grid with its traditional German roots. With ADAC now steering the promotional duties, a clear development ladder has been established, focusing on youth promotion from entry-level classes up to the pinnacle Superbike category.
The reunion of Galinski and Udo Mark within the management hierarchy provides a renewed sense of optimism for the upcoming seasons. By prioritizing clear regulations and reining in excessive technical upgrades, the revamped German championship aims to secure a stable and sustainable future for grassroots and professional motorcycle racing alike.
