Honda Confirms Unchanged WorldSBK Lineup for 2027 After Somkiat Chantra Extension

Japanese manufacturer Honda has officially confirmed that it will field an unchanged rider lineup for the upcoming 2027 WorldSBK season. This strategic decision comes in the wake of a contract extension signed by Somkiat Chantra, ensuring the Thai rider remains within the factory squad for another campaign in the premier production-based motorcycle racing world championship.

Before making the switch to WorldSBK, Somkiat Chantra initially joined Honda on a one-year deal after departing from its satellite LCR team in MotoGP. During his rookie season in the premier Grand Prix class, he successfully earned a total of 7 points before seeking a fresh challenge in the fiercely competitive production racing paddock.

However, the early stages of Somkiat Chantra's journey with Honda were heavily hampered by physical injuries. Since joining WorldSBK, the rider from Thailand was forced to miss crucial pre-season testing sessions, the season-opening round at Phillip Island, as well as the subsequent race weekend at Assen.

Despite facing fitness setbacks and scoring 16 points over the course of the current campaign, Somkiat Chantra will remain firmly partnered inside the garage. He will continue alongside teammate Jake Dixon, who had previously signed a multi-year contract agreement with the Japanese manufacturer.

Expressing his delight regarding his secured future, Somkiat Chantra shared his thoughts in an official team press release. "I am very happy to continue with Honda HRC in WorldSBK for another season," Somkiat Chantra stated. He noted that stepping into a new championship with a new bike and tracks was challenging, but he appreciates the continuous trust placed in him.

Echoing the sentiment, HRC General Manager Taichi Honda highlighted the importance of retaining the rider lineup. "We are very pleased to continue with Somkiat for the 2027 season. This year he has approached his first WorldSBK season with great commitment and a very positive attitude," Taichi Honda remarked, emphasizing that rider continuity remains vital for strengthening Honda's ongoing WorldSBK project.
