Lewis Hamilton has once again found himself in hot water after allegedly impeding Audi driver Gabriel Bortoleto during the second practice session (FP2) for the Bahrain Grand Prix at Sepang Circuit, Malaysia. The incident occurred when Hamilton, driving slowly on the racing line, failed to notice Bortoleto approaching from behind on the run to Turn 9.
Bortoleto's frustration boiled over as he vented over team radio: "What the f*** is this guy doing!" Meanwhile, Hamilton claimed he couldn't see the Audi driver due to limited visibility in his right mirror. "I can't see through my right mirror, so keep me up to date," Hamilton said over the radio.
Race control confirmed that the stewards will investigate the alleged impeding incident after FP2 concluded. This marks the third consecutive weekend that Hamilton has been involved in a similar incident, following occurrences in Madrid (Spain) and Baku (Azerbaijan).

At the Azerbaijan Grand Prix, Hamilton received a reprimand for impeding Liam Lawson in FP2. At the time, he blamed the new 2026 Formula 1 engine regulations. "When you come into the weekend, there's no data or simulations to say, OK, when you come to the last corner and you go to full throttle and you have 500bhp less than the car behind you on the lap, this is the gap you need to have before they get on you," he explained.
"So I think it's having clearer guidelines from them [the FIA], because none of us drivers want to get in trouble," he added.
This incident adds pressure on Hamilton as he adapts to Ferrari and the new technical regulations. Meanwhile, Bortoleto, driving for Audi, showed competitive pace but was hampered by the incident. The stewards are expected to issue a decision soon, which could impact Hamilton's starting position for the race.
