Lewis Hamilton has once again become the centre of attention in the Formula 1 paddock. Not for his on-track exploits, but for his candid comments on Ferrari's management structure. Amid a turbulent 2026 season, the seven-time world champion has spoken out about the team's leadership and future direction.
Ferrari is indeed under pressure. On-track performance has fallen short of expectations, and their position in the constructors' championship is under threat. Mercedes now leads by 160 points, while Hamilton himself no longer sits second in the drivers' standings. This situation has sparked questions from fans and pundits about the effectiveness of the team's management.
However, both Hamilton and his teammate, Charles Leclerc, have expressed full confidence in Fred Vasseur. Hamilton even highlighted the importance of a solid structure above Vasseur. "Well structure I think is very important and definitely stability and ultimately having everyone row in the same direction," he said.

When asked directly whether everyone around and above Vasseur is pulling in the same direction, Hamilton didn't hesitate to defend his long-term colleague: "I think Fred has the full backing," he confirmed. But he added that there is a structure that has been in place for some time and may need to be looked at going forward. "Fred is a fantastic leader. He really is about to take this team in the right direction. However, there is a structure that's been there for some time, whether or not that needs looking at moving forwards. There are obviously also people above Fred," he continued.
This statement highlights the internal dynamics at Ferrari that often become a topic of debate. Hamilton emphasised that the main issue is not one person, but the larger system. He praised Vasseur for helping the team achieve second place in the constructors' championship last season, a huge step from the previous year.
On the technical side, Hamilton did not deny that Ferrari's performance deficit is primarily due to the power unit. "The deficit we have is simply just on engine and that's something we're not we don't shy away from. We know that every weekend we carry a full tenth deficit, if not sometimes six tenths just in straightline power," he explained. He also stressed that the team is working extremely hard to overcome this issue.
Hamilton's comments signal that while he supports Vasseur, he sees the need for changes at a higher level. Ferrari is at a crossroads: maintain the existing structure or undertake a major overhaul. This decision will heavily influence the team's direction in the coming seasons.
What is clear is that Hamilton and Leclerc remain solidly behind Vasseur. They believe that with the right support and improvements in technical areas, Ferrari can return to fighting at the front. However, questions about the management structure will continue to linger until concrete action is taken by the top brass.
