Hamilton and Verstappen Urge Marina Bay F1 Track Layout Changes

Lewis Hamilton and Max Verstappen have openly voiced crucial criticisms and suggestions regarding the layout of the iconic street circuit in Southeast Asia. Both Formula 1 world champions agreed that the Marina Bay Circuit requires significant modifications to make on-track battles much fiercer and more competitive in the future.

During a press conference session, the British driver who now races for the Prancing Horse expressed his love for the atmosphere of the Singapore Grand Prix. However, he assessed that the track's maximum potential has not been fully unlocked due to the lack of hard braking zones that are safe for overtaking maneuvers.

I was just saying to Max, I think they need to change the track to maybe a longer straight somewhere in order to allow for it to be truly a great racing circuit, Hamilton said, explaining his perspective on the need for track layout renovations.

Furthermore, the seven-time world champion added that technical challenges such as the uneven track surface at turn 16 also limit the drivers' room to maneuver and battle wheel-to-wheel. According to him, minor adjustments to several sectors would drastically boost the quality of the spectacle.

Echoing his rival, the star driver for Red Bull Racing immediately threw full support behind the idea. He asserted that the presence of a longer straight or a proper hairpin is a non-negotiable requirement if organizers want to see more varied overtaking actions.

I fully agree we need to have a longer straight or more of a proper hairpin to overtake. But even with that, also we need a bigger delta on the straight, the Dutch driver stated, completing his technical analysis.

This warm discussion among the star drivers on the main grid certainly serves as an interesting note for the FIA and local promoters.
