MotoGP, Sportrik Media - Guenther Steiner delivered a detailed assessment of MotoGP after his early involvement with Tech3 KTM during the 2026 season, placing strong emphasis on the extreme risk and rider influence that define the championship.

Steiner’s first-hand exposure at the Circuit of The Americas provided a contrasting perspective to his previous Formula 1 experience with Haas F1 Team. He observed that rider input plays a far greater role in determining performance outcomes in MotoGP, particularly under fluctuating race conditions. This was illustrated by Enea Bastianini, who secured a Sprint podium before recovering from 12th on the grid to finish sixth in the Grand Prix.

From a competitive standpoint, Steiner underlined that performance variability in MotoGP is heavily dependent on rider execution rather than purely technical package superiority. Adaptation to tyre behaviour, track evolution, and risk management becomes decisive across race distance. Compared to Formula 1’s structured engineering framework, MotoGP demands continuous real-time adjustments from the rider.

“For me, MotoGP is new. I find it one of the most, if not the most, exciting sports in the world. When you get involved, it is always surprising how competitive this sport is and how much influence the rider has,” Steiner told MotoGP.com.

His evaluation also extends to the technical complexity faced by riders, noting that controlling a MotoGP machine at peak performance exceeds conventional understanding of motorcycle riding. The narrow operating window of grip and balance requires precise inputs at all times, leaving minimal margin for error.

“What these riders do on a bike is unbelievable. This is not just riding a motorbike, it is controlling an incredible machine at the highest level. From my perspective, as a human being, it feels almost impossible to replicate,” he added.

Steiner further highlighted the inherent physical and mental risk embedded in MotoGP competition. He pointed out how riders consistently return to the track after crashes, demonstrating resilience that distinguishes the discipline within global motorsport.

Alongside performance observations, Steiner confirmed that his primary focus remains on long-term team development. With the current agreement between Tech3 and KTM set to expire at the end of 2026, strategic planning is already aligned with the upcoming 2027 regulation cycle. The transition to 850cc engines and a new tyre supplier in Pirelli is expected to significantly alter competitive dynamics.

“The first six months are about understanding the people and the structure. My focus is not only on racing today, but on preparing the team for the future, especially looking towards 2027,” Steiner explained.

Contract uncertainties further complicate the competitive landscape. Enea Bastianini has been linked with a potential return to Gresini Racing, while Maverick Vinales, currently sidelined following shoulder surgery, has been mentioned as a possible factory KTM option in scenarios involving Pedro Acosta.

With regulatory changes, rider market dynamics, and technical evolution converging, Steiner’s role will be central in shaping Tech3’s competitive trajectory. His early conclusions reinforce that success in MotoGP is not solely defined by machinery, but by rider capability, adaptability, and calculated risk-taking.

Attention now shifts to the next round of the MotoGP 2026 calendar, where Tech3 KTM aims to consolidate performance gains while continuing its strategic preparation for a transformative new era in 2027.
