Gonzalez Extends Moto2 Lead as Alonso Closes on Top Four

Manuel Gonzalez continues to lead the 2026 Moto2 World Championship following the Czech Grand Prix at Brno. The LIQUI MOLY Dynavolt Intact GP rider now holds 165.5 points and maintains a healthy 50.5-point advantage at the top of the standings.

Although Gonzalez finished fifth at Brno, he successfully protected his championship lead as several of his closest rivals were unable to make significant gains. Consistency has been the Spaniard's greatest strength this season, with four victories and seven podium finishes keeping him firmly in control of the title battle.

Second place remains in the hands of Izan Guevara, who sits on 115 points. The BLU CRU Pramac Yamaha Moto2 rider finished sixth in Brno and retained his position as Gonzalez's nearest challenger despite the sizeable points deficit.

The fight for the remaining podium places in the championship has become increasingly competitive. Celestino Vietti occupies third place with 109 points, only two ahead of teammate Senna Agius, who moved to 107 points after securing fourth place in the Czech Grand Prix.

One of the biggest beneficiaries of the Brno weekend was David Alonso. His runner-up finish increased his tally to 91 points and brought him significantly closer to the top four. The CFMOTO Inde Aspar Team rider is now only 16 points away from a championship podium position.

Race winner Ivan Ortola also made an important step forward. The Spaniard's first Moto2 victory of the season lifted him to 77.5 points and strengthened his hold on seventh place in the standings while reducing the gap to the riders ahead.

Meanwhile, Brno proved to be a costly weekend for Aron Canet. The ELF Marc VDS Racing Team rider failed to finish the race and remains on 13.5 points, leaving him with a significant challenge to rejoin the championship battle.

As the season moves into its second half, Gonzalez remains the clear favorite thanks to his substantial points advantage. However, the battle behind him is becoming increasingly intense, with Guevara, Vietti, Agius, Alonso, Holgado and Ortola all still capable of reshaping the championship picture over the coming rounds.
