The Formula 1 weekend at the Marina Bay Street Circuit turned into a nightmare scenario for George Russell following a costly Sprint race mistake and subsequent technical hurdles. The British driver openly confessed that the team is far from satisfied with their overall performance package during a challenging weekend.
Russell's afternoon unravelled rapidly after he brilliantly snatched the Sprint race lead from Max Verstappen off the line. Unfortunately, treacherous track conditions caught the Mercedes driver out on the very next lap, sending him crashing heavily into the barriers along the main straight.
The heavy impact completely compromised the W17's balance and competitiveness compared to their promising pace on Friday. The engineering crew faced a massive race against the clock to rebuild the chassis prior to the qualifying session under the dazzling Marina Bay lights.

During qualifying, Andrea Kimi Antonelli—running the newer upgrade package—demonstrated stronger on-track pace than his teammate. Even so, the team acknowledged that they are still not satisfied with how the latest aerodynamic parts are being optimized.
Compounding his misery, a mandatory engine penalty forces Russell to start Sunday's Grand Prix from the back of the grid. Navigating through the tight confines of this street circuit from last place will undoubtedly present a monumental challenge for the British racer.
