The rider transfer market has taken a major turn with the official announcement regarding Franco Morbidelli and his future. The Italian rider is set to transition from the grand prix paddock to embark on a brand-new chapter in the WorldSBK championship starting from the 2027 season, stepping directly into the factory squad.
Speculation surrounding this high-profile switch had been circulating for several weeks, especially following the internal movements within the VR46 setup. Strong hints emerged during the race weekend in Cremona, where Franco Morbidelli openly expressed his delight about taking over the seat and embracing the upcoming challenge in production-based racing.
This move marks the absolute superbike debut for Franco Morbidelli after spending nine seasons competing at the pinnacle of motorcycle grand prix racing. Throughout his career, the Italian secured the Moto2 world championship crown in 2017 and finished as the MotoGP runner-up in 2020, boasting a total of eleven race victories to his name.

"I am very happy and excited for this new chapter in my career. I thank Ducati and Aruba for this opportunity. As always, I will give my maximum to live up to a team that has been fighting at the top for years and has just won the World Championship. I will do the best possible job to achieve great results together," stated Franco Morbidelli.
The acquisition of the seasoned rider was also welcomed by Ducati Corse General Manager, Gigi Dall’Igna, who praised the rider's undeniable talent, technical sensitivity, and proven ability to adapt at the highest levels of global motorcycle competition.
"We are very happy to welcome Franco into the Aruba.it Racing – Ducati family. Franco is a rider of great talent who has demonstrated speed, technical sensitivity, and adaptability at the highest levels. After many years in MotoGP, he will bring a wealth of extremely valuable experience to our Superbike project," concluded Gigi Dall’Igna.
