Aruba.it Racing – Ducati has officially confirmed it has signed current MotoGP rider Franco Morbidelli for the 2027 WorldSBK season. This major transfer marks a new chapter in the Italian rider's career after spending 14 years in the Grand Prix paddock, including the last eight seasons in the premier MotoGP class.
Within the factory Ducati structure for the 2027 campaign, Franco Morbidelli will replace outgoing WorldSBK champion Nicolo Bulega. The move forms a direct swap, with Nicolo Bulega heading over to the VR46 Ducati squad in the premier class.
Morbidelli’s career highlights include securing the 2017 Moto2 world championship before progressing to the premier class in 2018. His finest moment in MotoGP came when he finished as the championship runner-up aboard the Petronas Yamaha machine in 2020, prior to suffering a serious knee injury during the 2021 season.
Reflecting on this significant career shift, Franco Morbidelli shared his excitement in an official team press release. "I am very happy and excited about this new chapter in my career," Franco Morbidelli stated. "I thank Ducati and Aruba for this opportunity. As always, I will do my best to live up to a team that has fought at the top for years and has just won the Superbike World Championship. I will do the best job possible to achieve great results together."
Aruba.it Racing – Ducati Team Principal Stefano Cecconi welcomed the new signing with high enthusiasm, highlighting the immense value of Morbidelli's extensive MotoGP experience. According to Motorsport Week, Stefano Cecconi emphasized that Morbidelli's deep familiarity with top-level machinery and upcoming tire changes will provide the technical squad with exceptionally precious feedback moving forward.
