Formula E Title Fight Down to Nine Drivers in London Finale

Jake Dennis leads the Formula E standings heading into the season finale in London this weekend, but his advantage over Mitch Evans is just two points. With nine drivers still mathematically in contention, the ExCel double-header is set to be the most dramatic title decider since 2021.

The Gen3 Evo era has been turned on its head after last month's Tokyo rounds. Porsche and Jaguar, once dominant, lost crucial points in Japan, opening the championship wide. Dennis has risen from 32 points behind to the top of the standings, while Pascal Wehrlein has slipped to third.

Four drivers are considered genuine contenders: Dennis, Evans, Wehrlein, and Oliver Rowland. However, Edoardo Mortara, Antonio Felix da Costa, Nick Cassidy, Nico Muller, and Nyck de Vries still have a mathematical shot. The unique indoor/outdoor layout of the ExCel has often produced chaotic and controversial deciders, adding to the unpredictability.

Dennis, the first Gen3 champion in 2023, has been consistent with wins in Mexico and Sanya, plus three podiums in the last four races. Despite a disappointing Monaco, the Andretti driver has proven he is a serious threat.

Evans, who moves to Opel next season, has had an impressive campaign with wins in Miami, Jeddah, Madrid, and Berlin. However, an incident in Sanya and a technical issue in Shanghai cost him points. Now just two points behind, Jaguar is expected to fully support his title bid.

Wehrlein, aiming for a second title, has failed to score points in six of 15 races this season. Yet, dominant wins in Jeddah and Shanghai show his potential. With teammate Nico Muller's chances slim, Porsche will likely throw its full weight behind the German.

Rowland, Nissan's main hope, has scored six podiums—more than any other contender. Despite inconsistency, his momentum from Tokyo could lead to a second consecutive title. Meanwhile, da Costa and Cassidy have talent but have lost too many points. De Vries, who won in Tokyo, could spring a surprise.
