Formula E is set to attract major attention from the Formula 1 paddock this weekend after Formula E CEO Jeff Dodds revealed that several F1 drivers will attend the Monaco E-Prix specifically to see the new Gen4 car.

The Gen4 Formula E machine is scheduled to make its first public appearance on Sunday morning around the Circuit de Monaco with former Formula 1 driver David Coulthard behind the wheel. The new generation car has already generated enormous interest because its performance figures are approaching modern Formula 1 levels.

The Gen4 car will feature permanent all-wheel drive and produce up to 815 horsepower. It is also expected to accelerate from 0-100 km/h in just 1.8 seconds while reaching a top speed of 335 km/h. With those improvements, the projected lap-time gap between Formula E and Formula 1 in Monaco is expected to fall below five seconds.

In wet conditions, there is even considered to be a realistic possibility that Formula E’s Gen4 machine could outperform Formula 1 around Monaco. That potential comes largely from the instant torque delivery of electric power and the superior traction offered by the new all-wheel-drive system.

"There'll be a lot of them here over the weekend because they've asked us to look after them while they're here, and we will," Dodds told RacingNews365.

"The ones I speak to are all asking, 'Will we get to see the Gen4 car, right?' They're all very intrigued," he added.

Dodds also revealed he spent considerable time speaking with Haas F1 Team driver Oliver Bearman and his brother Thomas Bearman. According to Dodds, the young British driver demonstrated extensive knowledge not only of Formula 1 history but also Formula E’s technical evolution.

From a technical perspective, Gen4 is viewed as the biggest step in Formula E’s history since the championship was launched. The introduction of permanent all-wheel drive is expected to dramatically alter braking characteristics, energy deployment strategies, and tyre management throughout races.

Beyond outright performance, improvements in aerodynamic efficiency and energy regeneration systems are also believed to be key factors allowing Gen4 to move significantly closer to Formula 1 pace on street circuits such as Monaco. The development is gradually changing how the Formula 1 paddock perceives Formula E, shifting it from an alternative category toward a serious technology-driven motorsport platform.

With strong interest now emerging from Formula 1 drivers, this weekend’s Monaco E-Prix is expected to become a major showcase moment for Formula E’s future direction. The public debut of Gen4 is already being viewed as one of the most significant technical presentations in the championship’s modern era.
