Formula E, Sportrik Media - Formula E is implementing a structured strategy to introduce its next-generation Gen4 car while maintaining focus on the ongoing 2026 season, according to CEO Jeff Dodds.

The Gen4 car was officially unveiled last week at Circuit Paul Ricard and is set to become the fastest-accelerating FIA single-seater when it enters competition next season. The reveal generated significant global attention, particularly across digital platforms, positioning the car as a major technological milestone for the championship.

However, the timing of the launch presents a strategic challenge, with 11 races still remaining in the current campaign, beginning with this weekend’s Berlin double-header. This creates a need to balance the excitement surrounding Gen4 with the competitive narrative of the existing season.

Dodds acknowledged that the new car is likely to “overshadow” the current Gen3 Evo machinery, but emphasised that the series intends to integrate both elements rather than allow one to detract from the other.

“We recognise the level of attention Gen4 will attract, but at the same time, we are in what could be one of the closest title fights in Formula E history,” Dodds explained.

He highlighted the tight competition between Jaguar TCS Racing and Porsche in both the teams’ and manufacturers’ standings, with Mahindra Racing remaining within range. In the drivers’ championship, Pascal Wehrlein is under sustained pressure from Jaguar drivers and Edoardo Mortara, reinforcing the competitiveness of the field.

To manage this balance, Formula E plans to showcase the Gen4 car at selected upcoming events through on-track demonstration runs and static displays. This approach allows fans to engage with the new technology while preserving the narrative momentum of the current championship.

“Rather than resisting the attention, we will embrace it and align it with what is happening on track. We want to give equal importance to the racing now and the future direction of the series,” Dodds added.

This dual-focus strategy reflects Formula E’s broader objective of linking technological innovation with competitive storytelling. As the 2026 season approaches its decisive phase, the ability to maintain this balance will be critical in sustaining fan engagement ahead of the transition to the Gen4 era.
