The Mandalika International Circuit witnessed history as Raul Fernandez secured his first-ever pole position in the premier MotoGP class. Amid the intense pressure of the 2026 Indonesian Grand Prix qualifying session, the Trackhouse rider outpaced his rivals to claim the ultimate grid spot.
The path to Q2 was fraught with drama and misfortune for several competitors. Toprak Razgatlioglu was forced to brave the track despite suffering a heavy crash during FP2 that left him with a severe knock to his right shoulder. Nevertheless, the Pramac rider strapped on his helmet and pushed through the pain barrier.
The opening qualifying session saw continuous tumbling incidents. Johann Zarco suffered an early crash, quickly followed by Jack Miller at the exact same corner. Ai Ogura also hit the deck shortly after, but the Japanese rider managed to secure his progression into Q2 alongside Fermin Aldeguer, who topped the timesheets.

As the pole position shootout commenced in Q2, Marc Marquez initially set the benchmark ahead of Marco Bezzecchi and Raul Fernandez. The provisional grid shifted constantly as times dropped. Bezzecchi surged to the provisional top spot before Fernandez delivered his stunning flyer in the second half of the session.
A late crash by Fermin Aldeguer forced title contenders to briefly roll off the throttle in the closing minutes. Bezzecchi's mistake on his final flying lap ended his pole aspirations, leaving Fernandez to celebrate his historic maiden MotoGP pole. Fabio Di Giannantonio will complete the front row, with Marc Marquez heading up the second row alongside championship leader Jorge Martin.
