The opening practice session at Sirkuit Mandalika immediately delivered high drama as Aprilia star Marco Bezzecchi set the pace with a lap time of 1:30.132. Ducati Lenovo's Marc Marquez and Jorge Martin followed closely in second and third place respectively. The top three riders in the world championship standings proved they meant business right from the opening minutes in Lombok.
However, the schedule faced a 35-minute delay due to technical issues on the track during the preceding Moto2 session, leaving race control temporarily cut off from the action. Once the track went green, the air temperature over the Mandalika International Street Circuit hovered at 29 degrees Celsius while the asphalt baked at a blistering 59 degrees Celsius.
The crucial 60-minute session served as the primary gateway for direct progression to Saturday's Q2, reserved exclusively for the ten fastest riders. The intensity triggered several early incidents, with Diogo Moreira, Fermin Aldeguer, and Ai Ogura all suffering crashes, though all three escaped uninjured despite challenging track conditions.

As the session progressed, drama escalated further when Fabio Quartararo suffered a violent high-side crash at a left-hand bend, leaving the Frenchman momentarily dazed before walking away. Later stages saw multiple crashes involving Enea Bastianini and Alex Rins as riders pushed the absolute limit of their machinery.
With eight minutes remaining on the clock, Trackhouse ace Raul Fernandez stunned the paddock by clocking an incredible lap record of 1:28.725. Bezzecchi surged into second, while defending champion Pecco Bagnaia dug deep in the dying seconds to snatch tenth place and secure his direct entry into Q2.
