MotoGP, Sportrik Media – Fermin Aldeguer, rider of Gresini Racing, has successfully undergone surgery to repair a fracture to his left femur following a training crash ahead of the MotoGP 2026 pre season, as confirmed by the Faenza based team on Friday January 9.
Aldeguer became the first rider on the MotoGP 2026 grid to suffer a serious injury, despite the official pre season still being more than two weeks away. The incident occurred during a private training session at a circuit owned by Jorge Martinez Aspar in the Valencia region, a venue frequently used by riders to maintain race fitness during the winter break.
During the same session, Aldeguer was on track alongside Marc Marquez and his Gresini team mate Alex Marquez. Both riders were using Ducati Panigale V2 machines, while Aldeguer was riding a Yamaha R6 as part of his physical and technical adaptation program for his first full season in the premier class.
Midway through the session, Aldeguer suffered a heavy crash and was evacuated by ambulance before being transferred to Dexeus University Hospital in Barcelona. Medical examinations confirmed a fracture of the left femur, requiring immediate surgical intervention to stabilise the bone and begin the recovery process.
Gresini Racing confirmed in an official statement that the operation was successful and that Aldeguer has now entered the rehabilitation phase. "The femur surgery of Fermin Aldeguer has been completed. It is now time to rest and recover. We will provide further updates in the coming days," the team stated.
Aldeguer’s main objective is to be fit in time for the MotoGP 2026 pre season tests, which begin with the Sepang collective test from February 3 to 5, followed by the Thailand test on February 21 and 22 ahead of the season opening grand prix at the end of the month, with his recovery timeline now becoming a key variable for his preparation at https://sportrik.com/en.
