Gresini Racing rider Fermin Aldeguer is set to undergo surgery on his right hand following a disastrous and crash-filled weekend at the Indonesian Grand Prix.
It was a deeply disappointing conclusion to a difficult weekend for the young Spaniard at the exact venue where he secured his maiden grand prix victory just a year prior. His struggles began immediately on Friday when he suffered two separate crashes, forcing him onto the back foot and relegating him to the Q1 participation.
Although he successfully fought his way through to Q2 and secured a commendable sixth position on the starting grid, another crash during that qualifying session foreshadowed the difficulties awaiting him in the main race. When the lights went out, he initially made a promising start that elevated him to fourth place, only for his weekend to end abruptly after sliding out at Turn 16 on the second lap.

Following the conclusion of the race, official medical updates revealed the extent of the damage. He sustained a fracture at the base of the first metacarpal bone in his right hand and will require immediate surgical intervention.
The Spaniard is scheduled to fly straight to Barcelona on Sunday evening to undergo the operation. The silver lining for the 21-year-old is the two-week gap before the next round of the championship gets underway at the Australian Grand Prix.
