MotoGP, Sportrik Media - Fermin Aldeguer will miss both the upcoming Buriram Test and the season-opening 2026 Thai Grand Prix after Gresini Racing confirmed the Spaniard has not yet recovered sufficiently from injury.

The 2025 Rookie of the Year fractured the shaft of his left femur during a pre-season training incident in Valencia, Spain. Aldeguer underwent surgery in early January, but despite steady rehabilitation progress, he has fallen short of the fitness threshold required to compete in Thailand.
In an official social media statement, Gresini confirmed the delay in his return to action.
“Aldeguer keeps pushing forward with determination and perseverance. His recovery is moving fast, but not enough to see him in Thailand. He’ll miss the Buriram tests and the season opener,” the team stated.
As a result, Michele Pirro will stand in for the #54 machine in Thailand. The Italian test rider brings extensive experience, offering the team continuity during Aldeguer’s absence.
The setback delays Aldeguer’s first on-track appearance of the 2026 campaign until at least the Brazilian Grand Prix at the end of March. For Gresini, the focus now shifts to managing early-season data collection and development without one of its key riders, while ensuring Aldeguer returns at full fitness for the remainder of the championship.
